Parenting is without a doubt one of the most challenging jobs. Minnesota Twins player, Joe Mauer and his wife Maddie, are stepping up to the plate and accepting this challenge. On Feb. 27, Dustin Morse, media relations director for the Twins, announced on Twitter that the couple is expecting twins.
Mauer now faces the challenge of focusing on the baseball season and his wife’s pregnancy. Not to mention when the twins actually arrive, he and his wife are going to have their hands full with both bundles of joy.
“It’s hard enough with a single baby, but when you have newborn twins, things have to be on a schedule,” said Jennifer Walker, an Atlanta- based pediatric nurse and co-author of The Moms on Call Guide to Basic Baby Care. “You want to get the babies on the same feeding and napping schedules.”
“Another challenge, probably would have to be showing both of us the same amount of attention because sometimes my sister feels my mom pays a little more attention to me and vice versa ” said twin sister Shatique Hicks.
While the parents might have a difficult time adjusting, the twins have some advantages to look forward to.
“Advantages of being a twin is that you have a sibling that is the same age as you, which means that most likely they experience the things that you do so you’re not going through it alone” said Heidy Blair.
“I think we really do have telepathic powers because as odd as it sounds, I don’t have to say anything and somehow she’ll say the same exact thing I was thinking in my head,” said Hicks.
In an ESPN article, Maurer ackoweldged that they may need help when the time comes. “We’ll need a lot of help here come the end of the summer,” he said. “We’re very excited. I can’t wait.”
