On top of being the St. Louis Cardinals manager, Mike Matheny has started his own blog focused on changing the culture of youth sports.
According to the website, the main philosophy behind Matheny’s plan is about “respect, ownership, self-motivation and no-nonsense sportsmanship, that all lead to the display of character on the field.”
He says the biggest problem in youth sports is the parents, according to cbssports.com senior blogger Matt Snyder.
Snyder says that Matheny wants to put the focus back on the kids. Matheny also talks about how parents shouldn’t be complaining about their child’s playing time or argue about officiating. Matheny wants parens to remember the main purpose of playing the game is for fun.
