Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria took out a full-page ad in three major south Florida newspapers on Sunday, Feb. 24, to address controversal issues regarding the team.
Loria commented on the trade made with the Toronto Blue Jays, how the new ballpark received funding, where the team’s finances come from and how the team communicates with the community.
“Our plan for the year ahead is to leverage our young talent and create a homegrown roster of long-term players who can win,” said Loria in the letter, according to The Miami Herald. “In fact, objective experts have credited us with going from the 28th ranked minor league system in baseball to the fifth best during this period.”
At the end of the letter, Loria reminded fans of the 2003 World Series title the Marlins won under his ownership and asked for a fresh start.
