Carlos Gomez, 27 year old center fielder, has decided not to represent his country the Dominican Republic in this year’s World Baseball Classic. Gomez, entering a contract year could possibly be a free agent in the next season. Gomez in various interviews expressed how much he wanted to represent his country, but felt that his career was more important. Going to play in the classic would have taken away valuable time that could be used for spring training.
Gomez feels like his withdrawal is for the best, and the Brewers are still going to have a strong presence in the classic.
