The Tigers are 9-7 during spring training for the American League, according to MLB.com.
Victor Martinez, designated hitter, who missed the whole 2012 season due to a knee injury, returned to the Tigers lineup. However, after one game, Martinez is sitting the next few games out. “This time it’s not my knee, it’s my back,” Martinez told CBS Detroit.
Martinez, Omar Infante, Alex Avila and all injured players are ready for opening day, reported NBC Sports.
Ramon Santiago, Quintin Berry and Brennan Boesch are recovering on a day-to-day basis, in hopes to play this upcoming season.
Keep an eye out for pitcher Rick Porcello. At Sunday’s game against the Washington Nationals, Porcello struck out 14 batters and has not issued a walk in 13 innings this spring.
“I’ve got to keep working on getting ahead of guys, locating the fastball down in the zone and that sort of thing,” Porcello told Michigan Live.
The Tigers take on the Phillies tomorrow at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla. at 1:05 p.m.
