The Milwaukee Brewers are going to be well represented for this month’s upcoming World Baseball Classic, sending 10 of their players and representing six different countries. Representing Canada is John Axford (relief pitcher), Taylor Green (third basemen) and Rene Tosoni (Outfielder). Shortstop Jeff Bianchi will play for Italy. For the Team USA outfielder Ryan Braun and catcher Jonathon Lucroy. Starting pitchers Marco Estrada and Yovani Gallardo are going to represent Mexico. Shortstop Hainley Statia (Netherlands) and third baseman Mike Walker (Australia) are the last two brewers that will play in this months tournament.
Outfielder Carlos Gomez decided not to represent the Dominican Republic in the classic this year. Gomez is entering a contract year and decided it would be best if he focused on his career instead of the classic according to CBS Sports.
March 7 is the first time teammates will play each other when Italy and Mexico are matched up in Phoenix. Over the course of the tournament the teammates will face each other a few more times in the upcoming elimination rounds.
