Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Mauer is not only preparing for the Baseball World Classic and the 2013 season, but also fatherhood.
Dustin Morse, media relations director for the Twins, took to Twitter last night to announce that Mauer and his wife Maddie were expecting twins.
“Congrats to Joe & Maddie Mauer who are expecting Twins!” Morse tweeted.
The couple married this past December and received their news sometime during the holidays.
Mauer told reporters the twins should arrive late August.
“It’s unbelievable,” he said. “What a blessing. I’m just very excited and very happy. I really couldn’t believe it at first. It’s still kind of a shock. It’s starting to hit me now that we’re starting to tell people. It’s just very exciting.”
Mauer is not the only Twins player with twins. Infielder Jamey Carroll has twin boy and girls. His twins just celebrated their fifth birthday Wednesday.
