During a simulated game at practice on Wednesday, a fastball got away from pitcher Jose Fernandez and hit Giancarlo Stanton in the head.
The ball traveled around 95 miles per hour and hit Stanton around the bottom of his head, high on the neck area. He didn’t fall, but staggered slightly. His vision initially went blurry and grey, but is fine now.
“I wasn’t dizzy or nothing,” Stanton told The Miami Herald 15 minutes after being hit.
“When I asked him how he’s doing, he laughed,” Fernandez said in The Miami Herald. “He said he is fine. I told him, ‘I’m sorry. You know, nobody is trying to hit anybody. Same team and everything.’ He just laughed, said, ‘Bro, it’s baseball. It happens.’ ”
Stanton was taken back to the clubhouse on a golf cart to make sure he was OK. He still signed autographs for some fans as he made his way to the cart.
