Four players from the Rays are participating in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. Ben Zobrist will play for the USA, Jose Molina for Puerto Rico, Fernando Rodney along with Joel Peralta for the Dominican Republic and the newest addition to the Venezuelan squad, Alex Torres.
For 37-year-old Molina and 36-year-old Peralta, playing in this year’s WBC was top priority, as it will likely be their last shot.
However, Peralta’s status for the tournament is in doubt. Peralta recently injured his neck getting out of his Chevrolet Camaro to buy sandwiches, and he does not think that he will be able to play.
“I don’t think that I’ll be ready to help the team,” Peralta told MLB.com. Peralta said this especially hurts because it is the first time he has been called to participate in the Classic, and now he can’t.
